Belgium has a strong tradition in brewing strong blond, brown or dark-red coloured ‘abbey’ beers with an alcohol
content between 6 and 10%. They are all made in commercial breweries but in the traditional monastry style. They are rich
beers with a creamy foamy head and a very variable taste pallet. Second fermentation and/or fermentation in the bottle. A
good alternative for a Trappist Beer.
This list tries to give a selection/recommendation of the more crafty abbey beers from smaller
family and regional breweries. These are not always the most known abbey beers but we guarantee you excellent quality bottle
fermented beers.
